Circumstances
At Pinelands Presbyterian Church, we are accustomed to preparing our hearts, with private and family prayer and meditation on the scriptures, the day before the public worship of God, and the hours prior to the public gathering, thereby making it a practice to enter the worship of God with a solemn and graceful posture of the heart. In like manner, at the end of each service, it is our costume to soberly meditate upon the sermon, praying to God for the blessing of it, and concluding to obey the Word of the LORD. Hence, we enter and leave the main building, wherein the minister leads the worship of the True and Living God, with hearts, Bibles, and Psalters ready.
The English Bible translation used at Pinelands, for its faithfulness to the Received Text tradition, is the King James Version (KJV). And, our English metrical translation of the Psalms, for its unsurpassed faithfulness to the original language and that while setting them in meter, is the Psalms of David in Meter (1650).
In case of the lack of Bibles and Psalters being brought to the congregation, we both print out bulletins and project the Scriptures and Psalms for all to see during the reading and the signing of God’s Word.
Saints at Pinelands provide English to Spanish translation of the sermons via head-sets as well as the Bible readings and Psalms via the projector within the main building.
In case of sickness or travel, Pinelands also livestreams services and publishes sermons on YouTube.
Children
At Pinelands, we understand that children of believers are holy by nature of their parent(s) being holy in union with Jesus Christ, therefore, a proper expression of such a covenant reality is found in the children of believers joining their parent(s) in the public worship of God without segregation, that they, along with their parents, may enjoy the benefits of God’s covenant blessings in attending to the means of grace, i.e., preaching, prayers, psalmody, and like other elements of worship, that they may be called to own the faith once for all delivered to the Saints and be comforted and built up unto salvation in opportunities to own the promises of God found in their baptism, by faith.
However, for nursing mothers, Pinelands provides Quiet Rooms for mothers to nurture their infants with ease and comfort during the public worship of God in the main building.
In addition, understanding that children require more effort than adults, at times, to learn what man ought to believe concerning God and what duty God requires of man, the officers and interns at Pinelands provide a Catechism class for children between morning and afternoon services, at 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., to teach on the Shorter Catechism and bring out, again, the points of the sermon delivered in the morning, that the children might engage more with what they heard during the morning service, to their edification.
